About Van

CRITICAL THINKER. PROBLEM SOLVER. ARCHITECT.

Having grown up and built homes in and around Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and the Palisades, Van Hohman is redirecting his work to give back to and reimagine the fire-torn town of his youth. His forty-nine years of architectural experience began at fourteen when he worked alongside his father, Larry Hohman, framing apartment complexes throughout Los Angeles. Inspired to pursue architecture, he first learned to envision spaces sensitive to solar orientation, privacy, views, and breezes, developing his design and social vocabulary.

In the aftermath of the devastation, he envisions a new kind of family home harkening back to simpler times—one that harmonizes with the unique climate of the Southern California coast. With smaller footprints, solar orientation, outdoor spaces, and fire safety in mind, he believes the Palisades can be a testament to California's strength and resilience, one home at a time.
